CODEX @ The UWI

An Initiative by The Alliance of Digital Professionals in collaboration with The University of the West Indies

The Center of Digital Excellence (CODEX) is a professional-led initiative designed to accelerate the Caribbean’s digital transformation by bringing together leaders, innovators, regulators, and entrepreneurs across the region.

Hosted at The University of the West Indies (UWI), CODEX serves as a regional platform where experienced digital professionals, founders, solution architects, fintech leaders, regulators, and industry stakeholders collaborate to solve critical challenges and build the digital solutions the Caribbean needs.

Participation is also open to UWI graduates, and final-year students who are ready to contribute meaningfully alongside established professionals

Our Mission

To catalyze the development of regional digital solutions by fostering collaboration among digital professionals and stakeholders across sectors, while strengthening Caribbean digital sovereignty and innovation leadership.

Key Pillars of CODEX @ The UWI

1. Communities of Practice (CoPs)

CODEX is built around Communities of Practice — action-oriented groups where leading experts and practitioners collaborate to:

  • Identify regional digital challenges
  • Design and develop frameworks and solutions
  • Share knowledge and establish best practices

Initial Communities include:

  • Solution and Platform Architecture
(Strengthening architectural thinking across regional projects)
  • Digital Finance and E-Commerce
(Advancing fintech, e-commerce platforms, and regulatory innovation)

These communities are designed to move from discussion to action, producing tangible solution concepts that feed directly into the CODEX Incubator.

2. Digital Incubator

Solutions that emerge from Communities of Practice will be nurtured through the CODEX Incubator, where teams collaborate to build out critical regional platforms and applications.

The incubator focuses on:

  • Developing solutions that address pressing Caribbean needs
  • Supporting both open-source and commercial innovation
  • Creating opportunities for professional contribution, leadership, and ownership

3. Strategic Collaborations

CODEX partners with international and regional organizations to ground its work in global best practices while remaining regionally focused, including:

  • ISA Global (International Association of Solution Architects)
  • Caribbean Digital Finance Alliance (CDFA)
  • Leading Caribbean financial institutions, regulators, and technology innovators

These partnerships strengthen the reach, quality, and impact of CODEX initiatives.

Who Should Join?

CODEX is designed for:

  • Digital professionals across the Caribbean and diaspora
  • Founders, entrepreneurs, and solution architects
  • Regulators and policymakers working in digital finance, e-commerce, and technology
  • Senior technologists and consultants leading regional innovation initiatives

We also welcome select participation from UWI graduates, and final-year students who are prepared to engage at a professional level.

Why CODEX Matters

The Caribbean’s digital future must be shaped by those who know it best: us.

Too often, critical technology decisions happen without regional leadership or input.

CODEX creates a space where the Caribbean’s digital professionals, industry leaders, and innovators lead the conversation, design the solutions, and drive implementation.

By working together across sectors and borders, we can build a stronger, more inclusive digital ecosystem — owned and led by the Caribbean.
